There were fears that this year's Bushwhack might be too balmy and warm, based on how the weather's been.  But just in the nick of time, Old Man Winter arrived to test the Scouts' mettle.  Pictures are now up in the photo gallery.

Our Winter Snow Sports / Skiing outing is being planned.  The trip will be Friday, February 17 thru Monday February 20 (2012 President's day weekend).  We'll be going back to Seven Springs (located in Pennsylvania).  I've forecasted excellent conditions for the weekend.  This outing is open to scouts and their family members.  We can accommodate 24 individuals.  This trip will allow for electronics (IE video games) which only adds to the fun. Cost varies depending on rentals, lift tickets, lessons.  As with all our trips, first come first served, so please sign up early.

This is a mandate from the BSA national office - not just a Troop 843 policy - obviously it is also in the best interest of our youth members.
Here's what you need to know:
If you plan to participate in any such event, you can take the Youth Protection Training on-line at MyScouting.org.  You will need to create an account using a valid e-mail address, if you haven't previously.
Although you may be asked for it in the processs of creating an account, you do not need a BSA ID number to get into the system or to complete the training module. Once you have logged in, the course is listed under the "E-Learning" tab using the menu on the left of the screen and then under the "General" tab on the E-Learning screen. The course takes about 20-30 minutes to complete. If you have never taken the course before, you may want to pause occasionally and take notes - there is a knowledge assessment at the end that you must pass.
At the end please print three copies of the completion certificate. One to turn in with your Adult Participant Form for the outing you are planning to attend, one to go to the Troop records - please give it to Chisty Norz or any other Troop Committee member, and one for your files to use the next time you may want to go on a Troop event.
This training is valid for two years, then you will need to take the course again to remain valid.
